Moving in Solidarity: Statement Against Racism and Discrimination

I work with the Dance Movement Therapy Association in Canada and was honoured to draft their statement against racism and discrimination in these turbulent times. As someone whose practice depends very much on Eastern movement and massage modalities and the integrative wisdom of traditional indigenous healers I have learned from, I am committed to promoting and supporting the work of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour in somatic and dance movement therapy professions–which are a traditionally very white, mostly female-dominated fields with limited access. Through my current research at the intersection of Critical Psychology and Dance Studies, I aim to honour the healing movement practices that have informed contemporary body psychotherapy in order to further decolonize the mental health sector in Canada.
